70s Inspired Fashion | Self-portrait Striped Jumper
Hi loves! I love 70’s inspired fashion right now. This Self-portrait striped jumper is the perfect piece to start building a modern outfit with a vintage undertone. I’ve never been one for the full boho flower child vibe, but I like the idea of playing with subtle inspirations from the decade.
I am so in love with this Self-Portrait jumper. I saw it in Harrods while I was in London and it is so unique and special. I had to pick it up. It strikes the perfect balance between being playful and sophisticated. The sweater is a blend of cotton and wool, so it keeps me warm enough for a cold London day in December. I can also wear it on a cool Dubai winter day as well because it breathes a little.
Drawing on the bellbottom styles of the 70s, I paired my jumper with jeans from Missguided (similar here) for a modern take on the trend. I tucked in the sweater to give the outfit more shape and emphasize my waist. I’ve finally realized that high waisted bottoms are the best for my body shape. Lately, that’s the only style I've been buying. They also offer versatility for styling tops.
My Chloe Nile handbag has a subtle modern hippy undertone that makes it perfect for polishing off this 70’s inspired look. The color of the bag brings out the pink in the jumper. Even though these jeans are a light color, I like to remove the shoulder strap and carry this bag in my hand when I wear jeans to prevent color transfer.
Gucci loafers are one of the few shoe designs that transcends time. First launched in the 1950s, Gucci loafers have been fashionably relevant for decades. Their long history makes them not only incredibly versatile when putting together for an outfit inspired by previous decades but also modern at the same time. I got mine in my signature pink, so they add a bit of fun to any outfit.
False nails are my favorite alternative to acrylics. The nails I am wearing are from Primark. I used Kiss nail glue to apply them ( see my Instagram highlights “DIY Nails” for the full process). I would recommend only going for matte white false nails if it is for a quick event. These looked quite dirty by the end of one day. Even though this set of nails didn’t work out for me, I wanted to mention them because I have had so many good experiences with the Primark nails that I highly recommend them in other colors.
